Together, we raise awareness and take steps to tackle cancer.
Cancer can feel overwhelming, but clear, reliable information helps you take control. Outcomes are improving. Survival has doubled over the past 50 years, and around 1 in 2 people diagnosed now live 10 years or more. Over 200 types of cancer exist, yet many share common risk factors and warning signs you can act on.
Nearly 4 in 10 cancer cases in the UK are preventable. Not smoking, limiting alcohol, maintaining a healthy weight, staying active, and protecting skin from sun exposure all reduce risk. These changes do not need to happen all at once. Small, steady actions build real impact over time. Support is available through GP surgeries, health centres, and walk-in clinics.
Knowing your body is essential. If something changes, lasts, or feels different for you, get it checked. Early checks bring reassurance and faster access to support when needed. Healthcare professionals are there to listen and guide.
Early detection saves lives. Focus on what feels normal for you. If something unusual persists, speak to a doctor. Most changes are not cancer, but early assessment improves outcomes when it is. Screening programmes and trusted sources such as NHS and Cancer Research UK provide guidance.
